Mazingarbe is situated in Pas de Calais in the north of France. It is about 60 miles inland from Calais on the coast of the English Channel. The people of Mazingarbe have always proven to be wonderful hosts on all of my visits to Robert Dunsire VC’s final resting place in Mazingarbe Communal Cemetery. Robert has been honoured by articles in the local Historical Society publications and during recent WW1 Exhibitions.
To quote Gerard Delporte of Mazingarbe – ‘Your soldiers came here to give us our freedom. We will never forget them and their family’s sacrifices in our time of need’. Many of the soldiers who passed through or were based at Mazingarbe were from Scottish Regiments.
